Did everyone have a good Valentine's Day yesterday?? I did, very unconventional in the Cupid sense, but very fitting for where we are in our life. Brian and I exchanged a card in the morning...shared a quick peck and went about our business - like it was just another day. After all, we had kids running around, asking to rent video games, filling poopy diapers and most importantly one of my best friends was at the hospital with a new baby. (Seriously, how could I not ditch my husband and fly out the door to meet this gorgeous boy, and spend some time with my friend?)
I came home, Brian ran out the door to get a part for his car, a light for the fish tank, and rent the boys some video games..feeling the Valentine romance?? Than is was time for lunch, naps, & laundry. About 4:00 Brian mentions that the YMCA has a date night, and asks if I want to go? "We have a free pass, I guess we could go?" Aleigha chimes in, "Yeah for the YMCA"...Dawson hearing Aleigha, yells up the stairs "Do we have to go?? I just want to play my new game?" All while, Cole is getting all his snow gear on to venture out and play with a friend. "If we are going to go, we are gonna have to leave soon", I comment. "Plus, I bet everything is going to be packed with it being Valentines Day." we decide that we will save our pass for another day, perhaps when we get our tax return back in a few weeks. After all, we romantically have to spend some time shopping for appliances. Our dishwasher is dying, our stove croaked this week, and even the damn toaster broke! (how about that for an aspiring date with no kids....dinner and appliances.) Seriously, when did I get this old?
Around 5:30, Brian and I decide that we could go up to the local pub for dinner if the neighbor girl can babysit. Just like that, she walks over and Brian and I head out the door for a "Valentine Dinner". We walk in, they say it's a 45 minute wait. Before kids, we would wait that long or even more. We decide that we can't wait that long and venture to the bar area looking for 2 seats. Sure enough 2 bar stools in the smokey bar. Ok, life has changed. I would never have sat at a bar stool to eat dinner. Or if I did I would have complained. (mind you I was pregnant for several years straight...I did make an effort to be a good host to my growing belly. Besides overdosing on Coca Puffs, Sour Patch kids, and fountain Pop..I protected my baby well.) off track...back to the bar.
We sat in this smoke filled bar, watched some old man doing shots, listened to some lady with the most annoying voice around, and ate our dinner. I talked and talked and talked some more. Brian listened, the bartender carded Brian for a Beer (maybe we aren't as old as I feel.) And really, I think we both left happy. Feeling re-energized for having a few hours away. No complaints. A perfect Valentines Day!
